Statue of Liberty evacuated over suspicious package

DEVELOPING: The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island were evacuated Friday afternoon due to reports of a suspicious package, law enforcement officials said.

The evacuation of the monument came shortly before 1 p.m. Officials with the National Parks Service are conducting a sweep of Liberty Island and the New York City Police Department told FoxNews.com it sent a bomb squad to the scene.
